Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

 Prompt:
I like finding words that rhyme with each other when creating the poem. It is fun because the end result sounds a lot better than what a normal sentence would sound like. Finding words that rhyme also forces me to use my vocabulary more as I need to think of words that would sound similar and would fit in the context of the poem. Although it can be difficult to use, using rhyme in poetry makes it more interesting to read.

Today in class we started working on our poems.

Reflection:
It is difficult to write a poem as a lot of thought has to go into each word.

 Prompt: My mother has been the strictest when it comes to discipline. Her approach to discipline is more based on how she is feeling at the time. This approach means that if I am nice to her she is nice to me. It has taught me to treat other people the way you want to be treated. Summary: The Rockpile is about a boy who is disobedient and ends up injuring himself. Reflection: This makes me think about how my parents disciplined me.

Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths.

 Prompt: A time I felt connected to nature was this summer when I went on vacation to Grand Teton National Park. This was the first time that I had seen huge animals up close as bison lined the sides of the road and moose drank at many of the lakes. The top of Grand Teton itself seemed to never draw any closer, no matter how far we hiked. The largeness of everything in the park made me feel how insignificant a human is compared to the vastness of nature, but it also made me feel how important it is to protect it. Summary: Today we took notes about Native American literature and different types of stories. Reflection: I learned what the components of an origin myth are.
